A weekend trip to San Diego, CA (04/07-08/07

A singing Pine Warbler was found by Matt Sadowski in Memorial Park in Chula Vista. A most obliging, low bird.

While looking for a Tricolored Heron at the San Diego River channel, this beauty (Little Blue Heron) was begging to be photographed.

A terrible picture from a great distance, it’s still funny to observe this Reddish Egret’s hairdo. Bad hair day?

Other sighting of this rewarding, yet long trip include:

-Bell’s Vireo, Lawrence’s Goldfinches at Mule Flat trail (Lake Hodges)

-California Gnatcatcher, Hooded Oriole, Cassin’s Kingbird, CA Thrasher and Rufous-crowned Sparrows at Rancho Bernardo Community Park (Lake Hodges)

-Black Skimmer, Little Blue Heron, Reddish Egret, Gull-billed Tern off 7th St in Imperial Beach

-Black-chinned Sparrow, Gray Vireo, Scott’s, Hooded and Bullock’s Oriole, Olive-sided Flycatcher, CA Thrasher, a singing Thick-billed Fox Sparrow, Black-throated Gray Warbler along Kitchen Creek Rd in the Laguna Mountains

-Spotted Dove in Fresno just north of 8th & Huntington

Misses: Yellow-crowned Night-heron and Hepatic Tanager near Tijuana Slough, Greater Pewee (Griffith Park – this place was run over by weekend tourists and the main park road was closed – this is why I hate LA!)
