Mike Fleming and I ventured up Stevens Pass to look for all those winter finches that had been reported from the area. I little ways up the Skyline Trail we soon encountered a pair of White-winged Crossbills. The female was carrying nesting material suggesting that these birds are breeding up there.
A female Cassin’s Finch is shown below. Pine Siskins and Cassin’s Finches were abandunt. The lower elevations had Evening Grosbeak and Red Crossbill, higher up we started seeing Common Redpolls as well.
Near the first tower there was a pair of Pine Grosbeak.
